Stratagies!

Well, the rogues main advantage is that it has an unlimited range attack. So, advance slowly, and if you see one creature at edge of screen (there are probably more) fire like crazy. If a really large group is ahead, like 20 decent guys, and they're getting close, run some and fire again. You're faster than MOST, not all dungeon creatures. Oh yeah, when playing as a rogue with others, remember that they MASSACRE hidden ones like no one  else. They can cause some serious annoyance for a warrior (talking about like level 7), and make mages waste mana, but by the time I'm a level 7 rogue, I kill them with one hit or so, equipped with a mere hunter's bow, 25-30 strength, and 40 dex to make sure high hit percent. Plus, if you're damage is weak, then note that they have HUGE flinch reactions. When they're hit, they flinch for a long time as blood spurts out. If you're constantly hitting a hidden one, he can't move forward at all. I've been attacked by like 6-7 at a time in level 2 of the dungeon, I had not difficulties in the least . Oh yeah, and if you're playing a game, make sure you either have a mage teammate or holy bolt, cause arrows seem to do shit vs burning dead.
If surrounded by a mixed group of monsters, some of which are fallen ones, kill one of the OTHERS first, because the fallen ones will take off after you kill anyone, but the others won't... It'll give you a breather. Acid Beasts - as a lvl 13 Rogue, with AC 40 and a Bow of Puncturing.
If you're fighting the Butcher (no matter what class you are, this works great), find the nearest Barred wall, and get him to follow you there... but you need to get to one side, and have his dumbness stuck on the other.... Then all you need is a ready supply of ranged attacks... As a cheesy lvl 3 warrior, I killed him with my short bow (shoot until the icon shows, repair, shoot again, repair, etc.) before the bow gave out.
Magic bows - Bows of fire, flame, shock, lightning, etc. are super useful for a rogue, especially on the lower exp. levels. These bows will light up the area they are fired into, effectively giving you a much larger light radius. The bonus damage is reason enough to seek out such items. This is not to say you should pass on an opportunity to buy a massive bow of gore if you can afford and find one.
I have a 29th level rogue, and I have to say that the number one most important attribute is Dexterity. You can never have too much of it. It
boosts your Armor Class, which makes you a hard target to hit, it boosts your chance to hit, which is perfect for your ranged weapon, and it also raises your damage range. These things are necessities for combat, especially if you play like me, relying on my healing spell and taking everyone out with my massive bow of precision (1-14 damage. +110% damage. +19 to dex.) When fighting hordes of monsters, I tend to use flame wave, especially with those nasty witches that throw blood stars. Be careful when you run into immune to fire hordes though. Anyway, if you're looking to boost up your level or accumulate gold in multiplayer, here are some tips. First, if you can't go to nightmare, gain levels until you think you're ready to enter the caves. It is pretty challenging, so be careful. Work there until you're high enough for nightmare difficulty. Then, go to nightmare and go to the church. They give you massive amounts of gold, just make sure you have a high dexterity, so you don't get hit too much. By the time you have about 150 or more dex, try going to hell in the normal difficulty, just watch out for hordes of creatures that use magic (Dex. can't help you much there.)
I'm kind of a low level Rogue - 8. Even though I am low level, I still do a lot of damage. The tip I have for you is this. Buy the Bow of the Bear, it is one of the best. When it hits an enemy, they get knocked backward so you don't have to worry about the ones with close range attacks and things like that. I killed the butcher in about 10 hits without using any of those "trap\him in the stairs" cheats.
